Fear of Buying Clothes

Walking into a new shop for the first time is an overwhelming experience. You have no idea where to start. This sometimes prompts the fight or flight response, which usually results in flight of the store.

Im here to help you with this experience.
One thing I cannot stress enough is finding clothing that fits. Buying clothing that is too big or too small will only make you look bigger than you are and will not do wonders for self confidence. When you try on clothes take multiple sizes and styles in order to find the best for you. The importance of this is that you feel good in your clothing, not by the fact that you can squeeze yourself into a size too small.

Tips on sizing and style:

1. Measure yourself (bust, waist, hips, inseam, sleeve length, shoulder width and shoe size)

2. Check a sizing chart (here is the one for J.Crew http://tinyurl.com/oed73vx)

3. If your skin is spilling over the sides it is too small, if you're drowning in fabric it is too big.

4. It's okay to see bulges here and there, we're people not photoshopped pictures. If you are self conscious about these bulges you can get shapewear  (Here is a link The Bay's shapewear http://tinyurl.com/o3tgko8 )

5. When it comes to jean shopping (or clothes shopping in general) don't settle on something that looks just okay or doesn't fit quite right. Later on you won't feel happy with clothes that don't fit. With jeans I would recommend avoiding low rise as there are very few people that this is flattering on. Aim for mid to high rise as it keeps the tummy in control and can give a nice vintage vibe.

6.  I would also recommend not always following what is on trend as it might not be best for you. Skinny jeans can either look great or they can be torture devices. I personally would avoid trends like leggings as pants because they essentially show everything and only look good on a small portion of people.

7. Lastly do not compare yourself to other people, not even family. We are all different mishmashes of genes, that's what makes us special! Find what's best for you, not what's best for other people.
